Austin Carpenter

IT Professional & Musician

Austin Carpenter is a classically-trained bass-baritone and pianist who has recently completed his Bachelor of Music (Performance, Classical Voice/Opera) at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, and the current Assistant Director for the Gold Coast-based under-30 barbershop and a cappella group, "Cornerstone Chorus". His life-long passion for music has taken Austin to many different places around the world where he has performed choral music, barbershop, a capella, jazz, musical theatre and classical/opera.

Alongside his formal studies, Austin has been engaged in several Opera Queensland productions including “Project Rossini: The Barber of Seville” and “Project G&S: Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse!” (as a community chorus member) and the performance of Verdi’s monumental Requiem at the Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival.

A lover of barbershop and a capella music, Austin has competed in numerous international, national and regional Barbershop conventions with the 8-time national gold-medallist chorus "The Blenders”. In 2021, Cornerstone Chrous placed 2nd in the Regional Competition and 1st in the National Competition. He has also toured the United States competing in the World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio as part of a college tour to Los Angeles performing in Disneyland, California and Times Square, New York.

As a classically-trained pianist, Austin enjoys the complexity and the virtuosity of music demonstrated in works of classical composers as well as by contemporary composers. He has expanded his diverse skillset to include accompaniment which he incorporates into his teaching at his growing private studio business, successfully making his debut in Italy as part of an Italian language university programme.

Through his formal studies, Austin is enthused to continue to gain knowledge in the vast array of musical disciplines he studies, incorporating his knowledge into his performance and studio teaching and inspiring those around him.
